Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a therapeutic approach developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan. Originally created to support people with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), it has since proven highly effective for anyone who struggles with high emotional sensitivity, intense emotions, impulsivity or difficulties in relationships.
DBT combines acceptance and change strategies, helping individuals build a life worth living by teaching practical skills in four key areas: mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. It is especially helpful for those who feel emotions more strongly or more rapidly than others, often feeling overwhelmed or misunderstood.
While DBT is widely known for its success in treating BPD, it is also used to support people dealing with depression, anxiety, PTSD, eating disorders, and other challenges related to emotional regulation. Its structured and compassionate approach offers both stability and transformation for those navigating emotional intensity.
This framework complements my integrative approach and supports clients in navigating intense emotions with greater resilience and clarity.
